Budgeting for a baby must be an important task.  Having a baby can be very exciting.  However, if you are not careful with your budgeting for a baby, you could find yourself in trouble financially.  The good news is there are things you can do to make budgeting for a baby realistic and affordable.

The first thing you need to do in budgeting for a baby is to write down all your expenses without the baby.  Don’t forget the small things because they add up.  Be honest with yourself.  If not, it will only hurt you in the long run.  Once you have this in front of you, see what you can realistically eliminate.

You also want to calculate your household income.  Subtract your household income from your expenses to get a realistic picture.  The remainder of the money from the two will be what you have in budgeting for a baby.

Keep in mind that there may be income loss when the mom has to take time off from work after the baby is born.  If there will be income lost, make sure you prepare for it.

Here are a few things you can do to start budgeting for a baby:

Breast-feed your baby – Breast-feeding is very cost efficient.  Buying formula can be very expensive.

Pack your lunch – Cook at home as opposed to eating out for lunch.  If you are a coffee drinker, make it at home as opposed to purchasing it at a coffee shop.

Use coupons – Be a smart shopper and use coupons and seek out other grocery discounts.

There are many spending habits you can cut so that you can start budgeting for a baby.  Just ascertain what spending habits to cut so that you may save the most.

Baby Rattle

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

When your baby is old enough, a baby rattle is an excellent gift for many reasons.  Babies love lights and sounds thus making a rattle ideal.  Baby rattles are colorful and generate good sounds for your baby.  It is also a good educational tool to improve several of your baby’s senses.  For any parent that wants to ensure their baby is being stimulated all the time, this toy will incorporate playtime as well as increase their educational development.

Baby rattles are normally one of the first toys a baby will receive and are excellent at keeping a baby busy and entertained.

There are several types of baby rattles you can purchase.  Depending on your baby’s age, they can be held, tied to your baby’s wrist, or worn on your baby.  Babies that have them attached to their wrist will quickly learn that moving their wrist will allow them to hear a sound.

Baby rattles come in many different types of shapes and sizes.  They can be found designed out of many materials and fabrics.

When purchasing a baby rattle, the most important factor is making sure its safe.  Many parents have purchased wooden baby rattles because natural wood tends to be less toxic than toys produced by non-organic material.

As with anything else you purchase, conduct an online search for sales and reviews prior to your purchase.  You will learn a lot and save money by conducting your research first.  Doing it this way will ensure that you find some really good options.

Baby Blankets

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

Baby blankets are a must have and are known for their warmth and security for your baby.  It is a huge source for brain stimulation and development.  It is also one of the most intimate items a baby will have.  From the time the baby is born, they are wrapped in some form of a blanket.

The first thing that comes to mind with baby blankets is security.  However, there are many baby blanket products on the market today.  They even come in different types of material.

Baby blankets have a variety of uses.  They can be used to drape over the baby’s stroller or over the baby itself and used as a type of windbreaker.  It can also be used to shield the baby from the sun.  Or, it can be placed on the floor for the baby to play or take a nap.

Baby blankets come in a variety of different shapes, sizes, patterns, and colors.  Just ensure to choose the right one to fit your baby.  First, determine what the blanket will be used for.  Once you come to the conclusion as to what it will be used for, then you can purchase the right one.  But, always keep the baby’s comfort in mind.  Purchase a baby blanket that is soft and the colors are stimulating.

As with anything you purchase, some are better than others.  Do your research.  Just because the item is expensive, it doesn’t mean it’s the best choice.  However, don’t look for cheap baby blankets just to try and save a bunk.  Comfort for your baby is paramount.

Baby Formula

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Baby Formula was designed as an alternative for mothers that couldn’t produce breast milk, normally due to poor nutrition.  Without the baby formula, mothers would have to find another nursing mom that could feed the baby.

Since the beginning of baby formula, there has been much debate over which method of feeding is best for the baby – breastfeeding or formula.  Breastfeeding is much healthier.  But, there are many benefits of bottle-feeding.

One major benefit to giving your baby formula is that you can get Dad to help.  It can be a major load off mom to have Dad feed the baby in the middle of the night so mom can get a much-deserved night’s sleep.

Also, when you feed your baby formula, it can be more appealing to the public as opposed to breastfeeding.  You don’t get the uncomfortable looks and it’s not embarrassing to you or to the public.

Feeding your baby formula is also easy to track how much the baby is eating.  You cannot see the intake when breastfeeding.  Bottle-feeding doesn’t have that problem.  Mom can easily see how much the baby is feeding with the bottle.

If you take a stroll around your local market, you will notice a lot of baby formula products available.  It can be difficult trying to select the best one for your baby.  When you purchase, my advice would be to go with a name brand and not the store brand.  The name brand baby formula products are trusted and have been around for quite some time.

Baby Cribs

Monday, February 15th, 2010

There can be tons of Baby Cribs to choose from.  It is one of the most important pieces of furniture that you will purchase for your baby.  Cost should not be compromised for your baby’s safety.  Also, keep the baby in mind when choosing baby cribs.  When it comes to our babies, only the best will do.

I am a huge advocate of doing price research and comparison online.  By doing your research online prior to making your purchase, it gives you the best bang for your dollar and allows you more options to price compare.

When buying baby cribs, take your time and look for the quality of the crib that can provide your baby the most comfort.  Keep in mind that safety is your main priority.  Try selecting cribs with high quality.  Normally, the cribs with high quality are the best option in safeguarding your baby.

Remember, when picking your baby crib, it must be fitting to the size of your baby.  Make sure there is a little bit of room in the crib for pillows, blankets, and for your baby to grow.  Also, purchase a comfortable mattress for your baby that fits the crib snugly.

After you purchase your baby crib, ensure that it is assembled properly.  Making sure it’s assembled correctly will result in avoiding safety issues.

Try to purchase a new crib if possible.  All new cribs are in accordance with the latest government standards.  Getting one second hand can put your baby at risk.

During packing and shipping, baby cribs can be damaged.  Make sure you get a crib that is free of damage to avoid safety issues.

Choose an ideal, trustworthy, and reputable baby crib.

Baby Slings

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Baby slings, also known as baby carriers, are a way to transport your baby without the use of your hands.  It allows the parent to complete tasks while the baby rests comfortably inside.

Some of the baby slings keep the baby happy and content by resting the baby close to the mom’s body as if the baby was in the womb.

There are several types of baby slings.  They range from baby wraps, something similar to an arm sling, which looks like a long piece of cloth that is wrapped around the baby while the baby is held in the front.  The baby sling resembles the cloth but where it is knotted, the baby slings have rings to fasten them together.  Or, baby slings can resemble a backpack worn in the front.

Before you purchase your baby sling, determine how often you will be using it.  If you are using it on a daily basis, I would suggest you consider the top of the line models.  The higher end models will support your back and neck more and last the longest.  However, if you will only occasionally use them, then consider a cheaper model.  Keep in mind that the cheaper ones will begin to hurt your back and neck after only short periods of time.

Another thing to consider before you purchase you baby sling is your baby’s weight.  Your baby’s weight can determine which brand you purchase also.

I would highly suggest you conduct your price research online.  By pricing baby slings online, you have more of a price variety and comparison to choose from.

Feeding Baby

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Being a new parent can seem to be overwhelming at times, especially if its your first time.  Feeding your baby can add to the stress when the baby is eating all through the night and mom or dad isn’t getting much rest.  Therefore, it is good to keep feeding baby on a schedule.

With newborns, you are supposed to feed your baby every 3 to 4 hours.  If you breast-feed your baby, it is every 1 to 3 hours because breast milk will digest faster than formula.  As the baby grows older, the times between feedings will start to become longer.

Remember, all babies are unique.  Therefore, keep track of your baby’s feedings so you can be sure to get your baby’s schedule down.

Some babies can be impatient in-between feedings.  Don’t get discouraged.  However, if you do and decide to give in and feed your baby, take a break and resume a few weeks later.  Don’t stress over it.  Remember, all babies are unique.  Just stay persistent and it will all work out.

Baby Items

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

It should go without saying.  But, baby items are essential.  Being a new parent can be challenging.  Therefore, I wrote this post to help you get the items that are the most essential for you baby.

First, you must get baby milk and bottles.  Get bottles even if the baby is breast-fed.  Mom may not be around all the time to breast-feed the baby.  Therefore, bottles are important.  Make sure mom purchase a breast pump to leave the milk for baby.  Get formula as a back up plan.

The next baby items you will need are clothing.  Clothing is important because the baby needs to be warm in their new world.  When you purchase clothing, don’t over do it.  Keep in mind that the baby will quickly grow out of the clothing.

The last baby items needed are baby-toiletries like wipes, baby soap, baby lotion, and baby shampoo.  The baby cant use adult toiletry items because it will irritate their skin.

The challenges of preparing for a newborn can be overwhelming.  Therefore, I hope this post has helped to ease some of these challenges.
